Community Preservation Funds Approved For $1.2 Million Basketball Courts And Historic Preservation
Key Points
- $1.2 million in CPA funds will replace 20-year-old basketball courts at the High School.
- The project will resolve drainage issues that currently prevent contractors from warrantying court repairs.
- Voters also approved $200,000 for renovations at the Mordecai Lincoln property.
Article 12 passed with unanimous support, authorizing the use of Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds for recreation and historic preservation projects. The largest portion of the funding, $1.2 million, is earmarked for the construction of new basketball courts at Scituate High School.
Community Preservation Committee Chair Dan Fenelly informed voters that the existing courts are over 20 years old and suffer from significant drainage issues. The courts are heavily used... surfacing companies will not even warranty work done on these courts [due to moisture],
Fenelly said. The new project will address these structural concerns to ensure the courts remain a viable community asset.
In addition to the recreation project, the town approved $200,000 for the renovation of the historic Mordecai Lincoln property. This follows the town’s long-term commitment to preserving historical landmarks and providing universal accessibility across all new community infrastructure projects.
Motion: I move that the town vote to appropriate CPA funds as recommended by the Community Preservation Committee.
Vote: Passed Unanimously
